How many treatments will I need?
Everyone responds differently to Cosmetic Acupuncture but I generally recommend a course of six treatments to start. Some of my patient's then continue with constitutional treatments or occasional facial treatments before an important event such as a wedding or other function. But most people like to come back for treatment every month or every other month. This enables us to maintain and enhance the results we have achieved whilst supporting your present well being.
Will it hurt, what will I feel?
Most people will find that acupuncture does not hurt, the sensation is usually described as a very brief sharp feeling whilst the needle is inserted followed by a dull ache, this is a sign that we have contacted Qi and the treatment is working. I work with you to make sure you are happy with what I am doing and if you are experiencing discomfort this may be alleviated by adjusting a needle slightly and I will make sure you are comfortable before I continue. The needling phase is followed by a Tui na massage, this is a very firm massage that is very enjoyable. Very occasionally a small bruise can occur on the face or body but these are typically gone within a few days.
How will I feel after treatment?
Most commonly people report that they feel very relaxed and this is particuarly true for people who have a very busy life. Generally people feel good after Cosmetic acupuncture as the face feels relaxed but also taught, if that's not a contradiction? This is because there are many nerve pathways and acupuncture meridians on the face which influence the rest of the body and visa-versa. The combination of face treatment and body treatment is very complete and holistic.
Is there any research into FRA?
There is some, a 1996 report in the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture reported that among 300 cases treated with Facial Acupuncture, 90% noticed marked effects with one course of treatment. In my own practice I would say that some people have spectacular results and I have only had a couple of people who haven't noticed any effect. The majority of people are happy with the results we have achieved with the most common improvements being, more radiant complexion, smoother skin, lifted appearance, softening of wrinkles and fine lines.
Is this treatment suitable for everyone?
Care must be taken in certain medical conditions such as pregnancy, high blood pressure, pacemaker etc and this is true of all acupuncture treatment. This is why a full case history is taken during your first session so that a treatment protocol is tailored to your needs and any contraindicated parts of the treatment are noted.
